Staff at Marks & Spencer’s Watford store have donated a whole sleigh-full of gifts to Raise, the West Hertfordshire Hospitals’ Charity, for distribution on the big day to patients on the wards.
David Head, from the charity, collected the gifts which were a mixture of donations from the store staff and from the company. They will be part of the 2019 “Raise a Smile” appeal which aims to give at least one present to every single patient at Watford, Hemel and St Alban’s hospitals on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day.
David said “The appeal has been very successful this year, and with significant donations from both Marks & Spencer and ASDA we have cracked our target. In a hospital bed is not the best place to be at Christmas and the goodwill of individuals and companies across the county will genuinely “raise a smile” on patients’ faces across the wards.”
Gifts have ranged from chocolates to clothing, books to bears, and toys to toiletries, covering all ages and cultures.

Chantel Milson from M&S added “The team have loved supporting this appeal and we are delighted to help. Everyone here knows someone who has used our NHS hospitals at some point and I’m sure a gift from a stranger will bring a little Christmas cheer on the day.”
