An ardent Watford FC supporter will spend this year’s Valentine’s Day on the road running the distance of a half marathon between St Albans and Hemel via Harpenden to raise money for Raise the charity for West Herts Hospitals.
Greg Bishop, who lives in the North Watford Tudor Estate, will run the 13.3 mile route on February 14 starting at St Albans City Hospital. He’ll continue to the Harpenden Memorial Hospital before finishing at Hemel Hempstead Hospital.
Greg, who works as a schools sports coach for Xtra time & 1st touch coaching said: “Valentine’s Day isn’t just about flowers and chocolates, please show your love and appreciation to the hardworking NHS on this special day. This is just a small gift I would like to give back with your help.”
He added: “The NHS needs us to show them some Valentine’s Day love! All donations are welcome big or small – Thank you.”
Speaking to Raise, he said his friends and family have received support from the West Herts Hospitals NHS Trust during the coronavirus pandemic and would like to raise some funds as a gesture of thanks.
So far, Greg, who has always enjoyed running, has raised an impressive £700 and is confident he can go the extra mile to top £1000.
Sofia Sheikh, Raise Charity Director, said: “We’re so thankful to Greg for raising more for us! The funds will enable us to continue to fund the Raise a Rainbow appeal raising funds for the wellbeing of staff and patients at hospitals across the Trust, who are facing extreme pressures owing to the pandemic.
“We wish Greg the very best of luck and will be cheering for him on every step of the way!”
Greg’s father will be cycling alongside him during the socially distanced event for moral support and both will verify the run once the event is completed.
