Our impact feature: Caring for neonatal babies

How kind donations transform the care of our tiniest patients

Around 500 babies are admitted to Watford’s neonatal intensive care unit each year, and charitable support helps ensure that these most tiny and vulnerable patients get the very best start in life. In recent years, for example, kind donations have helped to pay for the following:

  • Paediatric ultrasound scanner (for babies who need to have their hearts scanned for a variety of reasons)
  • Video laryngoscope (for newborns who have trouble breathing and need doctors to investigate their throat and larynx to diagnose the problem)
  • BiliLux machine (for the treatment of neonatal jaundice)

Charitable funds have also helped to pay for:

  • Kangaroo care chairs (like the one picture above left)
  • Electronic breast pumps
  • Pillows for breastfeeding
