Each year, approximately 460,000 people attend outpatient appointments at our hospitals and around 140,000 attend our emergency department. Many require assistance on their arrival – help getting from their car or taxi to their appointment, or when they are being discharged for example.

Now we have 30 shiny new wheelchairs at Watford General thanks to the generosity of the Watford General Hospital League of Friends who kindly funded not just the chairs, but a weather-proof shelter too.

Staff on the main reception desk say that the wheelchairs are being very well received, particularly by family members who are helping transport their loved ones to appointments from the car park, or when going between wards to areas such as the patients’ lounge.

Thanks to the generosity of our League of Friends staff are no longer spending time hunting for wheelchairs, patients are less likely to miss appointments and they are able to go home more promptly afterward.

Fantastic all round!
