SCBU Watford General Hospital

Mark Chapman, Managing Director of MEC Grab Services Limited (MEC Skip Hire) presented our special care baby unit team with a fantastic cheque for £12,365 today. MEC is a local family run grab and skip hire company who offer their services to many locations surrounding Watford within a 15 mile radius.

Mark Chapman explained how and why they’d raised the funds: “We often get large quantities of soil in our skips so rather than send it to landfill, we put it through our topsoil screener and nurture it into excellent quality topsoil. We then sell this onto the public and have been putting the money aside for a good use that is close to our hearts.

“Watford General Hospital and in particular the special care baby unit (SCBU) is so special to us as our first born daughter Olivia arrived six weeks prematurely and needed to be cared for in the unit for the first two weeks of her life. We’ve had two more daughters since who thankfully did not need any specialist care after their arrival. Many of our friends and family have had babies born in Watford General and members of our family have been treated there over the years, all of which we are very grateful for.

“To give this donation to the SCBU is our way of saying thank you for the care our daughter received. Being a local business our staff and customers all have an allegiance with the hospital so its great that our donation will make a difference to other families like ours, on our doorstep for many years to come. It feels good to be able to put a little back in to our community.

“We take this opportunity to thank all our customers for their support in making this possible and hope this contribution helps SCBU to continue with the valuable work they do in looking after such vulnerable young lives.”
