West Herts Abseil raises over £23,000

The emergency medicine dream team on Atria Watford’s rooftop get ready for their abseil.

The West Herts Abseil has raised over £23,000 for our hospitals in Hemel Hempstead, St Albans City and Watford General, with the total amount raised expected to increase. On Saturday 10th June, almost 50 fearless fundraisers took the challenge for West Herts Hospitals, bravely scaling down Atria Watford in aid of a good cause. Taking part in the event were NHS staff and volunteers, corporate supporters and some adrenaline junkies just looking for their next adventure.

Dr Rachel Hoey (pictured kneeling above right) from the emergency medicine dream team said “It was wonderful to support Raise in such an exciting way, raising money for our wonderful hospitals as part of the EM dream team. The shouts of support from above and below got everyone through this challenge. Great teamwork in action!”

First to come down the 100 ft wall of the Atria shopping centre in Watford was West Herts Hospitals’ patient and carer experience nurse, Andrea Hone (pictured above). She said: “It was simply fantastic. There were so many incredible people taking part to support patients in our hospitals, and it was an absolute pleasure to be among them. Personally, I was pleased to take the opportunity to also raise awareness for the unpaid carers using our services and our own working carers.”

Emily Theobald, senior fundraising officer at Raise, who also took part in the challenge not just once, but twice, said: “A huge well done and congratulations to all our abseilers for their bravery and dedication to supporting Raise and West Herts Hospitals.”

“The money raised from this event will bring moments of joy, comfort and hope to those who need it most and I’m really proud of everyone who stepped over the edge for West Herts Hospitals.”
